Buzz Aldrin has stated that sf is to blame for the lack of interest in space travel (http://www.scifi.com/scifiwire/index.php?category=0&id=57491) because fantastic elements, such as Star Trek's transporters, make it impossible for NASA to live up to the public's expectations. How much of this do you believe is true? Could NASA's failure to do anything that has advanced space travel over the last 20 years be a contributing factor?
