In another response, Mikewolf mentioned the Honor Harrington books as being ripe for a series that has never been made.
Recently, we had Tanya Huff's Blood Ties and Jim Butcher's Dresden Files. This fall, HBO is going to be presenting the Southern Vamp series by Charlene Harris. The current trend appears to be towards urban fantasy, but what if the trend moves to the SciFi side of things?
Personally, I'd love to see HBO do John Ringo's stuff on cable.
David Weber did a space opera called "The Apocalypse Troll" that would make a GREAT movie.
Larry Niven's Ringworld should be a mini-series.
That's my double-farthing's worth. What are your suggestions?

Tanya Huff's Valor novels might make interesting made-for-TV movies.

cory doctorow's short story 'when sysadmin ruled the world'

does that count?

Yep. That one would count for a movie.
How about Fallen Angels, by Niven, Pournelle and Meyers?

I'd like to see the Foundation books turned into movies. :)

John Scalzi's Old Man's War universe would make an excellent series as well.

I agree with you all. There are others I would like to see, also. And I would want the producers and directors to be those that can handle sci fi properly. Josh Wheden comes to mind. Lucas and Cameron would be fantastic. The ones that do or did Jericho, Battlestar Galactica, Enterprise, Voyager, and ST Next Gen, Farscape, all Stargate, and Babylon 5 would also be ok by me.

I think anything by Weber is fantastic and doable, especially as extended mini-series: Prince Roger, Dalek stories. The Honorverse might make a better TV series.

I would love to see the Liaden Universe stories on TV or Movie. They are so richly textured, like Enya and Goldsmith.

Heinlein's juveniles would work as children's shows (Between Planets, etc.)

Little Fuzzy would make a pretty good movie in the manner of ET and the Last Mimsy.

The Foreigner novels of Cherryh would make a miniseries.

And then there are the Sector General tales. I think that was tried (something similar was), but it didn't last. It was a wonderful show, though. This would best be handled like Babylon 5.

And what about Haris Serano and Ezme Suiza and Kylara Vatta series from Elizabeth Moon?

After viewing the disaster (financial, too many people couldn't understand what was happening) of the first Dune movie, the too-short version, that couldn't be understood or appreciated by people who hadn't read the book, I understand more about the fear of writers in having their work perverted. And we that have read Clancy know that the movie versions of his books are great but are not the same story. (I am ok with that since I get 2 for the price of 1, so to speak. With Pride and Prejudice I've seen 3-4 different stories for the 1 book)

I think the illuminatus trilogy would make a damn fine opera.
Imagine people singing about the sinister number 23.

it is not a novel but th back ground for the game On the Edge" would be wonderful for TV. An island in the med ruled by tyranical libertarian who lets every cult and secret society have a place at the table. If nothing else what can you say about an island where a hangman's noose takes the place of a tie.

Do you think the sci fi channel would listen to us and replace some of the non-sci fi programming with real sci fi?

Reply to This

not a chance, they are concerned with the bottom line, eg their wrestling.
